The Large schools competition was won by Penpol and Pendeen won the Small schools competition.
Penzance Tennis Club hosted a schools competition on Tuesday 23rd June for small primary schools and Thursday 25th June for the large primary schools. The winning team for each day were to qualify for the Cornwall schools event in Newquay in July. The competition was aimed at introducing young players with very little experience into a competitive tennis team event. The format of the event was to mix singles and doubles with the winning team winning the most rubbers very similar to the Davis Cup. The team that won on Tuesday was Pendeen and on Thursday Penpol.
All the schools taking part were involved in the Game, Set & Match Project where coaches from Penzance Tennis Club were introducing the game in the school playground. Children in Years 3 & 4 were learning to build up their movement and coordination with a variety of different skills being learnt to be able to deal with different shots in the game. This was a great way to attract children into the game and we hope to see them continue playing in the future.
Penzance Tennis Club is always welcome to non members attending the club. There are Tennis Summer Camps throughout August where lots of fun activity and games will be organised. Application forms are available at schools, Penzance Tennis Club and on the website.
Have a great Summer
