Dear Headteacher
Following the success of our Schools Team Show Jumping series, held at Colraine Equestrian Centre last winter, we are writing to inform you that the first competition of 2009 will be held during half term, on 30th October 2009.
The Pony Club is a national body and as such is required to conform to strict Health and Safety regulations. The Pony Club has comprehensive third party insurance which covers this event.
Hats should be of the following standard:
In accordance with Pony Club rules, it is recommended that body protectors be worn for the show jumping classes, although this is not compulsory; however, schools may insist that all their pupils/students wear body protectors.
Teams from all Cornish secondary schools can take part in the competition, which will be run under Pony Club Show Jumping Rules. Teams of four will jump two rounds.
First round: Two team members will jump one round at 70cm
Two team members will jump one round at 85cm
Second round: Two team members will jump 75cm
Two team members will jump 90cm
The second round will be timed and run over a different course. The team competition will be decided on the best 3 scores from each round and the second timed round.
The top 10 individual riders will jump off to decide individual placings.
The day will be split into morning and afternoon sessions, due to parking restrictions. Schools will be allotted times in each session with all four riders taking part in that session, i.e. the whole team will jump in the morning or in the afternoon.
The Penwith Sports Partnership Challenge Cup will be presented to the overall winning team. Rosettes will be given to sixth place for teams in each session. Special rosettes will be presented at the prize-giving to every pupil taking part. A cup will be presented for the overall individual winner, with rosettes up to sixth place. Rosettes will also be given to sixth place for the best turned out teams, with a trophy for the overall winning team.
Each team will require an adult team leader (chef d'équipe) who will be responsible for ensuring that their team is present and ready on time. The leader does not necessarily have to be a teacher and can be a parent or other responsible adult. We will require a contact number and email address for all team leaders as the competition is held outside school hours.
Schools may only enter two teams due to parking restrictions. Entry Fee is £36.00 per team. Entry forms and cheques (made payable to the WHPC) to be returned to Mrs. H Bode, 33a Tredrea Lane, St Erth, Hayle, TR27 6JS. Closing date for entries will be October 20th 2009. Entries will not be accepted unless accompanied by a cheque. Attached is a parental consent form which must also be returned for each team member.
A Clear Round jumping class will be held from 9.00 am until 9.30 am followed by a Dengie Winter League Show Jumping Qualifier, with entries on the day for both classes. This is a qualifier for the Area and National Championships. The schools team show jumping competition will begin at 10.30 a.m.
I would be grateful if you could pass this information to the member of staff who organises team events and to any pupils who may be interested in taking part.
Yours sincerely,
Diana Hardy
District Commissioner
