Staff and pupils at Nancledra Primary School took part in their ‘Healthy School’s Week’ last week, abandoning their usual curriculum and partaking in activities to raise the awareness of keeping healthy. Melanie Slater, coordinator of the week said ‘This was not just a focus on keeping the children physically fit, but to help them realise there are other aspects of fitness, such as being mentally and emotionally healthy, which is important to being a rounded individual.
The older children had the opportunity to run a small enterprise for the week- a healthy Tuck Shop, selling dried fruit, vegetables and nuts, with the help of a parent Rissa Parsons, which was a great success. Healthy cooking was done around the school too, with the help of French Chef and parent Stephan Sauthier.
Headteacher Rick Gill said ‘The children have had a fantastic week and have learned a lot from their activities. It’s an important part of our role in Schools to provide broad and varied experiences for the children to be inspired by throughout their lives. I’m sure that’s been done this week.’
