On Friday the 13th of November 2009, Penzance Hockey Club won the 'Junior Sports Club of the Year' award at the prestigious 'Cornwall Sports Awards' held at The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay.
The club have a fantastic junior section and have done so many great thing to aid the development of hockey for juniors in and around Penwith. Some noticable links that they have developed with Penwith SSP are gaining 'Awards for All' funding for each primary school to have a hockey equipment bag, teacher training, part funding towards community/schools hockey coach and probably the one thing that we all know about, is that they single handedly run the Penwith Primary Schools Hockey League.
Several members of the club were there to collect the award which was presented by Michaela Breeze who is originally from Cornwall and she went to the 2008 Olympics representing GB in power lifting.
Other great speakers on the night included Dave 'Bengie' Thomas and St Justs very own 2008 BBC Sports Personality 'Unsung Heroe', Chris Gonninan. All speakers thanked the volunteers within Cornish Sport for their constant work for helping develop Cornish Sport.
FROM ALL AT PENWITH SSP, well done PENZANCE HOCKEY CLUB. We are so grateful for your constant support.
