Primary Tag Rugby Festival

Hayle Rugby Football Club  hosted the 2010 Penwith Primary Schools Tag Rugby Tournament.  This event is the local stage of the  National Child Victims of Crime (CVOC) Competition. CVOC is the only National Police Children's Charity.  16 School Teams from within the Penwith School Sport Partnership Area participated, 190 children in total.  Stage one saw the all of the school teams grouped together in boxes of 4, all playing a match against each other.  The top 2 teams went through to the Competition Finals Stage, with those finishing in 3rd and 4th positions going through to a Plate Competition. The 8 teams through to the Finals Stage all qualified for the next stage of the CVOC Competition, the West Cornwall Area Competition to be held at Redruth Rugby Club on Monday 14th June. Following a very closely fought Final the team from Bolitho School finished as the  2010 Penwith Tag Rugby Champions, with Alverton Primary finishing as runners up.

St Ives pulled out a performance that saw them winning the Plate Competition, with Ludgvan finishing as runners up. Ludgvan were also recognised for being the most sporting team on the day. Both St Ives and Alverton also qualify for the West Cornwall CVOC Competition.

  1. Nobody left empty handed, a goody bag sponsored by the Police and Tesco was given to every child. Emma Austin, Penwith Competition Manager, said “This was a fantastic day. The CVOC Competition is a great format giving the opportunity for all schools to be involved and compete at a local level, also allowing for further progression into County, Regional and National Finals. We are now looking forward to next year’s Competition!”.

Special thanks go to Hayle Rugby Club for allowing the full use of their facilities, and to Sergeant Mike Friday and all of his colleagues for making this a successful and enjoyable event for all involved.
